Oh, Mary! is a deliriously dark comedy about a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks before Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
Unrequited longing, alcoholism and repressed desire collide in this wildly irreverent 80-minute one-act, which finally gives Mrs. Lincoln’s forgotten dreams their due—through the lens of an idiot (playwright Cole Escola).
Hailed by The New York Times as “one of the best comedies in years,” Oh, Mary! won Tony Awards for Cole Escola’s leading performance and Sam Pinkleton’s direction. It also received Drama League Awards for Outstanding Play and Outstanding Direction, a special citation from the New York Drama Critics’ Circle, and recognition as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
