Taylor Swift: Storyteller

Taylor Swift: Storyteller is a career-spanning look at the artistic reinventions of the 12-time GRAMMY Award–winning artist who is one of the most prolific songwriters in history. Highlights include the cheerleader and ballerina ensembles from the award-winning music video for “Shake It Off” (2014);... [ + ] the red wedding dress and bellhop uniform from “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault),” which featured Miles Teller and was directed by Blake Lively (2021); and the sparkling ensemble from “Bejeweled” (2022), directed by Taylor Swift. Concert attire by couture fashion houses are featured along with props, jewelry, ephemera, and projections of music videos rounding out the exhibition. Taylor’s emotional songwriting is the catalyst for the captivating worlds she brings to life on stage and screen through exquisitely crafted costumes, inventive stage design, and imaginative iconography. Swift has discussed the pressures that female musicians feel to constantly alter their public images, and regularly addresses gender norms in her videos, performances, and public appearances. Whether dressed down in a flannel shirt and untamed hair or literally dazzling her audiences in head-to-toe Swarovski crystals, Taylor gives greater meaning to the palettes, textures, and depths of feeling expressed in her songwriting.

Craft Front & Center: EXPLORING THE PERMANENT COLLECTION

An ongoing exhibition of the Museum’s growing permanent collection of over 3,500 objects, Craft Front & Center features a fresh installation of more than 60 historic works and new acquisitions dating from the golden age of the American Craft movement to the present day. Organized into themes of ... [ + ]material transformation, dismantling hierarchies, contemplation, identity, and sustainability, the exhibition illuminates how the expansive field of craft has broadened definitions of art.Established at the Museum’s beginning in 1956, MAD's permanent collection was the vision of Museum founder, Aileen Osborne Webb, the collector and philanthropist who pioneered an understanding of craft and the handmade as a creative driving force of art and design. With the aim of broadening access to the collection's holdings, Craft Front & Center will be periodically updated with new displays of rarely seen works and recent additions, as well as inspiration for hands-on workshops and off-site field trips.
