Budget food in the heavily-mortgaged New York Times building, with such dubious mottos as "Low stress is as important as low fat" that mirror a menu full of the best of traditional American cuisine. The hamburger is literally at the top of the bill at Schnipper's, with the usual variations and a few curveballs, like the green chile burger, and just about every sort of comfort food you can imagine, all reliably made: macaroni and cheese, sloppy Joes, chicken fingers, turkey clubs, and so on. The salads are pretty terrific as well, with a diabolical fresh beet and goat cheese variety that's top-notch, and a two-item seafood menu that hits the only things the sea can cough up that give any comfort to hungry heart: fish tacos and fish & chips.
