Ruth's Chris Steak House in Midtown is sumptuously decorated in deep tones complemented by beautiful modern art and rich, mahogany paneled walls. Art deco sconces throughout the restaurant dining room provide perfect ambience. The steakhouse also has four private dining rooms. As you might have guessed, the focus here is on steak. Ruth's Chris Steak House is an upscale chain that originated out of New Orleans and serves the finest USDA Prime beef available, broiled at 1,800° and served on 500° plates meant to keep your steak hot, juicy and delicious. They also offer New Orleans inspired appetizers, fresh seafood, soups and salads, signature side dishes and homemade desserts. As for the strange name? Fifty years ago in New Orleans Ruth Fertel, a single working mother looking to provide a better life for her two sons, browsed the “Classifieds” section of the Times-Picayune. She spotted an ad reading “Steak House for Sale.” Driven by an inherent entrepreneurial spirit, she mortgaged her home to purchase Chris’ Steak House on the corner of North Broad St. and Ursulines in New Orleans. As you might have guessed, the focus here is on steak. When a kitchen fire destroyed Chris Steak House, Ruth was forced to relocate the restaurant to stay in business. But the Chris Steak House name wasn't allowed to move with it. So, with little time and a mischievous smile, Ruth added her own name to the sign, making it “Ruth’s Chris Steak House.” And it worked—that tongue-twister of a name was born. There are now over fifty Ruth's Chris outposts throughout the USA and Canada.
