Vandal

A certain segment of jaded New Yorkers view the changes wrought to the city in places like Times Square and wonder with dismay - "where have all the bad times gone"? They see the disneyfication of the city making it palatable, if bland. Tourist friendly for mid-western families who come to bask in the glory of M&M stores, giant TGIF's and Aladdin on the great White Way. Well, the children of these jaded New Yorkers eventually reach drinking age, and with the ghosts of Sex and the City haunting their psyche they ask "wither the glam? wither the edge? where can I wear the skimpy black dress and hangout with like minded folk?" The answer is Vandal. A huge restaurant, bar and lounge from Chef Chris Santos and the Tao Group. A multi-level 22,000 square feet with two dining areas, a cellar bar and lounge and a decor that stays to the name, with installations and murals from artists such as Hush, Apex, Shepard Fairy and others. Menu of sharable plates that are eclectic and exotic like Disney World, and cocktails that are bespoken about either because of their unusual ingredients or their wallet busting prices. The crowd is the Tao crowd. Young, up and coming, fashion, finance and media masters of the universe, who cavort and glad-hand in a space that screams cool. What with a giant break dancing bunny, impressive murals, and the hoards of taste–makers leaning against the bar and each other. Vandal is place that works as an impressive simulacrum of an idealized downtown, but like Disney, it smoothes out the edges to create a comfortable if shallow cool.

Jin Fong

Massive restaurant (in fact the largest in Manhattan) with upwards to 800 seats. But they need all of 'em at this wildly popular dim sum restaurant in the heart of Manhattan's Chinatown. The place attracts all kinds, with in the know NYC foodies sharing tables with Chinatown natives, and out-of-towners seeking an authentic culinary experience.

The Fillmore Room

Traditional American and steakhouse with a raw bar in the Gallery District and on The Highline. The décor harkens back to an Old New York feel, rich colors, hooded fireplaces and tin ceilings. Elegant 100 year old oak bar is perfect enticement to rest your weary elbows and drown your sorrows or fortify your cheer with classic cocktails from well stocked bar.

Ada Wine Bar

Theatre district gem, perfect spot for quiet drink after work, or light meal before a show. Craft beer on tap, wide selection of wine by the glass, tapas and Mediterranean small plates.

Vekslers

Neighborhood gem serving up eclectic mix of Asian inspired dishes as well as the simple classics, including a great burger. Casual atmosphere, great cocktails and rotating selection of craft beers make this popular spot for casual gatherings.

Wallabout Seafood & Co

Executive Chef Peter Larsen presents simple seasonal fare with a focus on seafood in this elegant restaurant in Fort Greene. Located in Brownstone, with two floors and an outdoor terrace Wallabout provides an intimate setting for simple fresh food.

Dough — Bed Stuy

Super popular doughnut shop that has hard time keeping up with demand. Which is good news as your sugar high will still come oven warm!

The Cynical Schnauzer

Only some cynical dog would fail to appreciate this farm-to-table spot from Przemek Adolf with the talents of Executive Chef Gus Ulrich. With a menu of contemporary American small plates executed using seasonal ingredients from local farms and vendors. Warm, intimate décor tends to keep guests lingering in their seats, enjoying that extra bottle of wine and intimate, scintillating conversation.

La Loba Cantina

Charming neighborhood cantina serving the food and spirits of Oaxaca and other regions of Mexico. Founded by husband and wife team Jeff James and Meredith Sheehy who having fled the hard partying wasteland of the Lower East Side found themselves smack in the middle of starting their dream - sharing their love of Oaxacan food and drink.

Dough — Flatiron

Super popular doughnut shop that has hard time keeping up with demand. Which is good news as your sugar high will still come oven warm!

Barano

On the Brooklyn waterfront, steps from the Williamsburg Bridge, Albert Di Meglio, who has worked at Albert Di Meglio, veteran of Le Cirque, Osteria del Circo and Rubirosa, opens his own place on the Brooklyn waterfront at the base of the Williamsburg bridge. Robust Italian fare, including wood-fired pizzas, meatballs, bucatini with rabbit ragù and spit-roasted lamb are served up in casual but intimate spot with an open kitchen.

POCHA 32

Wildly popular Korean food in the middle of Koreatown. Fortunately stays open late - and the later you go the more raucous the crowd. Ambience driven by K-pop beats, green fish nets tenting the dining area and nearly every table ordering up watermelon sawa, a hollowed-out half watermelon filled with ice, fruit purée, soju and Sprite, accompanied by bowls and a ladle. Dishes served family style and range from classic Korean street food, to some popular Americanized dishes. A fun place to bring a group to celebrate an occasion, any occasion, such as merely being young and alive!

Rider

A New American Bistro and Bar in Williamsburg from Kevin Dolan and chef Patrick Connolly. The two create a space that has the classic New York feel – a contradiction of grit and polish, casual but exceptional. The food ranges from an excellent burger to a decadent soft egg served with a foie gras crouton, sweet sherry yogurt, and caviar.

Moti Mahal Delux

Two Stars From the New York Times This sophisticated and upscale restaurant with a modern dining room and excellent service offers a unique Indian fare fine dining experience.

Covina

New American fare with Mediterranean influences from Chef Tim & Nancy Cushman. Bar offers bespoke, traditional cocktails for the after work meetings that demand something more than beer.

The Smith – Nomad
